Eho Hut

Eho hut is located at 1675 metres altitude (co-ordinates: N 42° 46" 24"", E 24° 29" 04"") in the heart of the Central Balkan National Park. It is at the Zhelezni Vrata ("Iron Gates") saddle, between the Kavladan and Yumruka ("The Fist") peaks. The highest peak of the Teteven Balkan Mountain, Vezhen (2,198 m), is located to the southwest, while in the valley between the peak and the hut is located the Tsarichina reservation, one of the 17 Bulgarian reservations, included in UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Program.

The hut is designed and built by the Academic Students' Mountain Tourism Association, based in Ruse, with the participation of students, employees and professors from the Ruse University Angel Kanchev. It is a two-storey building with 47 beds and three toilets and bathrooms. The building has water supply, a power generator and solar panels, and is heated by stoves. It also has a tourist kitchen, dining room, bar and a living room for learning and seminars.

As of 21 May 2009, the hut's hosts are Galya and Ivan Kavalski, originally from Teteven. The Kavalskis have been running the Benkovski hut for many years (located to the west of Eho hut), their experience includes a stay at several other huts, such as Dermenka, Koman and Kordela, near Teteven.

The hut is open during the winter.

In case the hosts are absent during the workweek, a couple of rooms remain open with loaded stoves and access to firewood.
